Congratulations! You have one of the top 5% most viewed LinkedIn profiles for 2012

(This article will take 2 minutes to read)

I recieved an email this morning to tell me that I was in the top 5% of 200,000,000 people who have had the highest number of profile views in 2012. It was a nice touch, but after doing a little research on twitter and the web I coudnt help thinking that it was a bit of a marketing ploy !

Top 5% would mean that 10,000,000 people would have got a similar email, and I assume that is globally because my research showed people from all over the world, but mainly North America of course where most of the LinkedIn subcribers reside according to LinkedIn. See the infographic below:

Maybe living in Africa this means that I am even more special....ha ha, it truly is Vanity Friday !

So who else got one ?

  1. 200 million 5% means 10 million people not 200 000 :D

  5. We all got them; I am nobody and got one. Marketing ploy with statistics.

Definition of Statistics: torture the numbers until they confess!

  6. Bugger. I got one too but was too cynical to believe it. It did give me a boost for about 5 seconds. Like taking a LinkedIn tequila shot. We are 10 million special!

  7. Congrats either way. I also got that email... though, being a Top in anything, and being recognized for that, is good.

  8. At least those of us in North America are in the 70-percentile, if we disregard the average. Whatever that is.
