Do YOU have THE '4' Essential Leadership Qualities to Succeed ?

After reading some great books on "Social Media" and "Social Business" in the last 6 months I stumbled across another fascinating yet wholly unexpected gem of a read.  

The author, Tim Elmore, writes informatively in a relaxed style in his book: "Generation iY: Our Last Chance to Save their Future".  A book that looks at the generation of youngsters that are joining the workforce now for the first time and will be our (the Baby Boomers and Generation X's) leaders, Presidents, Prime Ministers', Kings and Queens.

How to Practice The Art of Chaordic Leadership

I have been researching a book titled "Birth of the Chaordic Age" by Dee Hock, founder and former CEO of VISA, in which Hock describes his experiences in pulling together one of the largest (if not the largest) credit card company in the world in 90 days. His story of finding order in chaos (living in a chaordic world) is both fascinating and inspiring.

But it is his philosophy about leadership, people, and management that draws me back to his work today. In this time of chaos in our world, our work, and our lives, his thoughts on leadership speak of character, trust, caring, and power – not power over people, but power that takes the organization to a higher level of dedication to service and ethics.

A Social Media Policy in a Video - does it work?

Our organisation has grown to the maturity level with Social Media internally that its use is considered A professional toolset or just a generational necessity.

Management is also mature in terms of embracing the new and exploring rather than limiting and ignoring. A key hurdle to an organisational blockage had been overcome : management advocacy.

With great empowerment comes great responsibility, and whilst we all can be mature in our approach and complacent in our achievements we lest not forget that like most things in business some parameters are a good idea.

Passion is a Strong Driver for Leadership

Passion is a strong driver in the world and people emerge as leaders because they discover that they have a skill or a calling, which they enjoy exercising and nurturing, whether it be consciously or unconsciously, and they soon discover that they can make a 'difference' which makes them feel good and in turn drives the passion. The formula is simple.

That 'difference' can take many forms.  Be it that they lead a Fortune 500 corporation, lead a body of people in a protest, lead a band, lead a household, lead a scout troop or lead their local community.  Leaders come in many shapes, forms and callings.

2011 Highlights - SharePoint Saturday Cape Town 2011 - The Video

It was only after I started to review my year 2011 in preparation to set my goals and objectives for 2012 that I realised that I hadn't posted a link to one of the singular most fun and new experiences that I had in my role as marketing and sales director at Intervate Cape Town in 2011.

I am talking about the SharePoint Saturday Cape Town 2011 video that was produced by Jo Higgs at Go Trolley Films.  Jo is one of the most capable and down to earth people you will meet and as soon as I met Jo, I knew I was at the right place.  Jo is modest, yet broadly experienced with her experience in film and journalism.
